Court records state that Deutsche Bank’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein officially began in August 2013 through brokerage accounts for Southern Trust Company Inc. and Southern Financial LLC. The records say Epstein-related entities and associates eventually opened and funded more than 40 accounts at the bank.
High-risk classification
Released materials state that Epstein’s relationship was classified as high-risk and subject to enhanced due diligence. A New York State Department of Financial Services consent order later criticized the bank’s monitoring of the relationship and imposed a penalty.
What this does not establish
The existence of an account, payment or business relationship does not establish that every recipient or employee participated in Epstein’s crimes. Transaction-level evidence and context matter.
